Hi Marshall, This is not exactly what you wanted to know but useful nonetheless. It doesn't make sense to use probiotics anyway; if you do the math you find that all a capsule contains is enough probiotic to populate a couple of CCs or so of stool.
On the other hand, feeding your existing starter culture a prebiotic and allowing it to proliferate naturally can be accomplished at a fraction of the cost and it's more effective too. It's a more effective approach because probiotics of course have to be working to produce bacterocins, anti-cancer enzymes, B vitamins, short chain fatty acids and of course the low pH that helps to control the unwanted bacteria and yeasts. They must also be working to proliferate and physically outcompete pathogens both in the stool and on the crucial position of the bowel lining. By the way, bifidobacteria is the real workhorse in the bowel, both in effect and in numbers; they are particularly easily cultured with inulin, a natural polymer that occurs in all plants. The science is on my website. Duncan Crow -- The Silver List is a moderated forum for discussing Colloidal Silver.
