Thank you for your comment, John. To you I say, thank you for being patient with the situation. You know I tend to move very slowly on disciplinary matters when they are not really acute. I depend on people to govern their own behavior. For that to happen they need feedback, some private and some on-list. It takes time. In this case, I'm seeing new people's behavior being influenced in a negative way by long-time users who should know better -- something I want to stop. To the rest of you I commend John's remarks as important to remember. It *is* a matter of respect. If you find John's attitude to be too restrictive, please note that your preferences *are* respected in that I will almost certainly never tighten the controls here so much that he would be completely satisfied. So, I call upon *you* to respect his needs, and others', by helping us travel the middle ground on which few are totally comfortable but nearly all can make progress... together. End of sermon...
