I wanted to respond to several posts, and instead of
posting several times, I have responded shortly to
each one in this post.

“The association of the name "blue blood' and
silverware use is pure speculation..and HIGHLY
unlikely.“

Of course, the use of silverware would not create
“Blue Bloods”. It was the practise of grinding up
silver into powder, stirring it into liquids and
drinking it that would do it. See next paragraph.

Jason said,
“The most predominant cause of argyria is actually
fine silver particles, taken in through the lungs via
environmental/industrial exposure (silver mines, metal
smithing, etc.).”

This is the dynamic behind the “Blue Blood” affect –
large silver particles getting caught in the
capillaries of the skin and turning dark from exposure
to light. Inhaling it would do it, but drinking it
would also.

Matthew said,
“A solution of 0.1 M silver nitrate will put 0.1 moles
of Ag+ ions into solution for each liter of water. The
atomic weight of silver is 107.87 grams per mole. So
the concentration of Ag+ will be 10.787 grams per
kilogram of water, or 10787 milligrams of silver per
million milligrams of water. This comes out to
10,787 ppm.”

OK, I would certainly fear argyria resulting from a
10,000+ ppm preparation!

“Have you tried stone crush tea?”

Edith, have you any idea where to obtain this tea? Let
us all know, please.
