It might be of interest to note that Cayce recommended
the use of lemon juice and lime juice for cancer in 1934.

Edgar Cayce Speaks. Cayce also reported the alkalizing
effect of fresh lemon juice diluted in water. See reading
1709-10, 1943, ibid. 

But Cayce warned not to take starches or
gluten-bearing cereals at the same meal as the lemon and
lime juice. To do so reduces the efficacy of the juices.

I don't know how Cayce was able come to such good
medico-nutritional advice. But it is hard to argue with
success. He did, for example, give strenuous warnings
against aluminum cookware as early as 1933.
