I have 3 young boys (ages 3, 7 and 10) With my first I used the "5 second
rule", with my second I used the "5 minute rule", with my youngest I use
the, "if there's no visible mold or particles that can't easily be flicked
off it's o.k. rule"... LOL

The restraurants around here have what they call the "5 second rule".
That is, anything dropped on the floor is ok to put back on the plate if
it is on the floor for less than 5 seconds. Last night Myth Busters
tested that and found this to be total hogwash, there was no difference
in the huge amount of bacteria and molds picked up when food is dropped
on the floor between 2 seconds and 6 seconds.
