I have been investigating the Guaifenesin protocol for fibromyalgia. You
have to avoid all salycilates, which means not only no aspirin, but no
aloe vera, no creams, lotions, shampoos or the like with ANY plant
extracts in them. No essential oils, no herbal extracts, etc. Apparently
one can eat culinary herbs, but no products with herbal extracts in
them. It also means no olive oil and no coconut oil. If salycilate
containing things are not completely avoided, the action of the
guaifenesin will be blocked so it won't work. I've been reading a Guai
email list, and some people apparently cannot touch a garden plant, some
have blocked from walking on grass in bare feet.
The testimonials from people who have done the protocol strictly are
amazing. But it is a very difficult protocol because of the astounding
number of things that have to be completely avoided. It is a lifetime
thing though. If you stop the Guai, you regress, so it isn't strictly a
'cure' but an ongoing treatment that seems to have done near miracles
for a lot of people.

Bill,
I heard on another site that Guifanesin (the expectorant drug they put
in cough and cold syrups) is supposed to be really helpful with Fibro,
although I have not checked it out myself yet, but I had never heard
of that treatment before.
