Marshall,
Yesterday afternoon I was listening to public radio and they had a program
about "unfounded rumors." I think the couple of men they had on were from an
organization called Center for Science and Food Safety? They were talking
about how these unfounded/absurd rumors about aspartame were hurting people
and depriving them of a good product that people enjoy. They used the
example of a diabetic woman that started drinking regular soda after she was
misled by an unfounded, ridiculous rumor that aspartame caused MS. They also
said how terrible it was that people were listening to these horrible rumors
and people and districts were demanding that Fluoride be taken out of the
drinking water, and they were now going to suffer and get all kinds of
cavities and be deprived of Fluoride protection. To top that off, they got a
psychologist on the show and he said that people that spread rumors were
usually unpopular and it was the only way they could get attention, so that
it's important not to listen to them and pass them along. The last man on
the show talked about how you had to just jump in there and attack anyone
that would spread rumors about perfectly good products by getting people's
attention by presenting it in a news format and then explaining point for
point why it is false. After I heard that I was really disgusted at Public
Radio. Rumors are obviously more honest than that group.
Paula
