*******Pat -- the first person who told me how to make CS (with a homemade 
battery unit) told me to warm (not boil) the water first.  Doing so speeds up 
the brewing process.  Since I bought my Colloid Master several years ago, I 
simply use room-temperature distilled water.  My Colloid Master unit is set on 
standard, at around number 5.  It can take anywhere from three to five hours to 
make a quart of CS.  It is always crystal clear with a very light metallic 
taste.  My Hanna tester shows a ppm level of anywhere from 8 to 12.  I'm 
wondering 
if there is something wrong with your testing device -- as your description 
sounds like very much stronger CS.    MA
