Many such pumps have some sort of valve or flap arrangement that allows you to throttle the flow, which could be handy for smaller batches or if the turbulence is too much. You might not even need tubing, either. Just work out the best way to situate the pump to get the stirring effect you want. Nice idea. Mike D.
