This is not true . Even ships can make contrails...so big that they show up on weather satellite.

That definitely made me a believer, but later with binoculars was able to see the lower flying planes spraying from the wing tips, you could see the nossles, and the engines were leaving no trail at all, since of course con trail cannot be left by aircraft that are flying low.
