Hi Terry, Thanks for the info, but the problem goes deeper than that, or
anyway farther back. I live on alternative power, solar panels and
micro-hydro in the winter. On several occasions a few weeks ago I had
glitches in my power supply-inverter due to inadequate energy input. This
dumped the computer abruptly a few times, and several programs in the tray
or start menu were damaged. Rather than attempting to re-install them I've
opted to hold out til I could afford a new box and Linux, and that time is
soon upon me. Meanwhile it lives in the past, and marches to the beat of
that different drum; (well hey, sometimes so do I. <g>)
Take care, Malcolm

Malcom,
A computer that loses time even though you reset it
usually needs a new battery (little round, flat thing,
size of a quarter). The first sign of a weak battery
is inaccurate date/time. Later, when the battery is
dead, the computer forgets how to start up.
Any computer shop has them for $5-$10.
Terry
