Hi Acmeair, here is some of the best research on use of magnets these guys did this research for many decades. you want the north pole of t he magnet the same pole the compass attracts to when pointing to the north pole of the earth. there are lots of differing opinions on the north and south pole and alos the scientists dont agree on which is which so go by the research on this website, and ignore everythnig eles or you will become confused nad frustrated by diffrening opinions. http://www.magnetlabs.com/
