Many many moons ago it was customary to boil clothes and linens. My job as a kid
was to lug buckets of water from the well, and fill a copper wash boiler on the
stove. It was brought to a boil and the linens,ie sheets, under wear ,all whites
etc were put in the boiling water. Then they were rinsed in hot water then wrung
out and if the sun was out, they were hung out on the clothes line,or spread out
on the grass to sun bleach. This I realize is not possible today as most fabrics
are synthetic and will not suffer hot water. The laundry detergents today are
designed primarily for cold/warm water washing, and do not give the sanitizing
effect of boiling.
I use CS in the washing machine to take care of the pathogens, etc, but, for any
thing like dust mites ,I use a powerful vacuum with good filtration, which is
not 100%,but reasonably good.
