Blue moons can be either from silver accumulation at the root of the
fingernail, or from other problems such as low oxygen in the blood, poor
circulation, and heart problems. But they are different. The silver
moons are more of a slate blue, or even grey, and do not go away if you
get your hands hot, or press on the fingernails to the point of making
them white. The others type is more of a sky blue, and if you put your
hands in hot water they will normally go away, and if you press on them
they will turn white with the rest of the nail.

The silver moons are only cosmetic, but the other type can indicate
serious conditions.
