Hi,
I have been using a product called lavilin for years, and it works just
as you describe how your Z.O. ointment works, Julie. During the winter
months it could last for between 2-3 weeks but during heavy prespiration
in the summer I have to apply it every 2-3 days.Lavilin Arm Deodorant,
12.5 grams <http://www.thevitaminbin.com/lavilin-deodorant.html>
What brand of ointment do you buy and where can one get it? I never
thought of trying a plain zinc oxide ointment but it should be cheaper
than the "lavilin" thats sold specificly for underarm use.

our family uses zinc oxide ointment in place of
commercial deodorants. after a shower we dry, spritz
with cs and then apply a thin layer of the zinc. this
lasts me about a week, but dh must reapply more
frequently. it will continue working for days even
with daily showers, but shaving will remove it. this
allows the body to continue to perspire, but
apparently keeps the bacteria that causes odors away.
i believe i read about this from H. Clark. it costs
pennies and is healthier than commercial brands of
deodorant.

That is a bit tricky. Using such things as K-Y
jelly as a carrier are
problematical because they are water soluble, and
when you perspire, it will
still wash off. Seems what is needed would be the
carrier that is used in
waterproof sun tan lotions. That once it dries is
suppose to be water
resistant.
