Mike's suggestion sounds good, but if you have to do this yourself, you
might be able to isolate the problem areas.  If two dissimilar metals
are touching, this is a problem in itself.  If you have one metal in one
area and a different metal in another area, you may have galvanic action
between these two metals.  You might be able to electrically insulate
(and so, isolate) individual areas temporarily using clear nail polish
(which is not toxic when dry) or something similar.  Use air to make
sure the tooth surfaces are dry before applying and then allow to dry.
