I must respectfully disagree with the statement below. With any species
dependent on bacterial fermentation it is of utmost importance to be
careful with dosing of EIS, however, most can indeed have it, if the
dose is species appropriate. My rabbits all get a species appropriate
cautious oral dose of EIS daily in their drinking water and have done
for several years with only beneficial effects. Some people who are or
have been members of this list give EIS daily to their horses.
Though I have no dosage information for chambered stomach ruminants, it
has been my impression that those species can actually tolerate higher
doses of EIS (relative to speciies and size of the animal) orally than
can the hindgut fermenters (rabbits, hares, and horses).
In any case EIS for URI infections and colds can be delivered by misting
and nebulizing which avoids the gut. I have rabbits who have been
extensively nebulized and misted (eyes) with EIS, with or without DMSO
added, with very good results and no adverse effects on gut flora.
Check the SilverPets list and its archives, and post the question there,
someone there may have used EIS for a cow or calf, or a similar ruminant
species.

I have a good friend who rescues all kinds of animals. She has a premature calf who was left to die. He was born with no ears and has a cold....he is about three months old. Would it be okay to treat him with the cs and about how much how often?
thanks much debbie
No CS internally for ruminants. It would destroy the
pansen bacteria that feed them. The calf would recover from
the cold and then starve to death!
It is OK externally for wounds, also for udder infections
if injected.
