It's highly unlikely that any silver jewelry is pure silver.
Buying bullion silver will be a lot cheaper than certifying a foundling.

A good day to all my CS friends, and wishing you all well!
My wife and I go walking a lot these days, for the simple fact that we had
a (minor) car crash and thus are with a car with broken shock-absorbers,
being repaired .. no wheels for some time.
This afternoon, returning from the funny movie "Open Season" (worth seeing
with kids; that bear is incredible!) we found two earrings on the street,
made of silver rods.
They are more than 2 mm in diameter, and more than 15 cm. long (were
rings, I bent them straight), so they are perfect for home-making CS, as I
have done since I met this fine way of miracle water.
I would like to know if there is any do-it-yourself way of knowing if the
silver is real, and not sterling. Maybe a bath of some vinegar, or other
citric liquid? Should there be a mark on the rods (like much seen on
gold)? Or do we simply go and see a goldsmith for an answer?
If you could help me unravel this enigma, please do.
Thanks in advance, and we'll be in touch
Faith
