I should add that steroids increase fungal growth, and will make any fungal infection worse. And since that is mostly what is in vogue for drs to prescribe these days for asthma, you might imagine that asthma rates would be worse.
When I was a child, the drs in my area did not prescribe steroids for this purpose, it was considered irresponsible since they have such a broad action on the body, and it was unknown what other unintended effects they would have. However, what is decided to be in the best interest for the public's health is usually not what is in the best interest of the individual. It is not the same thing.
