*******Jodi? Thanks for the info...I keep records of my labs etc...going to copy out this info for the next time I have to "explain" to the docs about the Betadine. V. In a message dated 4/8/2007 6:43:04 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes:
One of the ingredients in Betadine is called Nonoxynol-9, which is an irritant. It is so irritating that it can actually cause tears in mucous membranes and other sensitive areas, along with outbreaks of rashes on the skin. That can probably explain some folks' reaction. Here are all of the ingredients in Betadine. Snipped from HTML version of http://www.pharma.com/PI/NonPrescription/A6910B16.pdf. Betadine Surgical Scrub - Drug Facts Active ingredient: Povidone-iodine, 7.5%–(0.75% available iodine) Inactive ingredients: ammonium nonoxynol-4 sulfate, nonoxynol-9, purified water, sodium hydroxide Jodi Cinder Ella wrote on 4/8/2007, 2:54 PM: [snipped] > (((It is really strange that topically it bothers you and internally it > doesn't. )))) Perhaps you're allergic to the other ingredient in the > Betadine? and not the iodine? > Are you allergic to Shellfish? > Doris ******Doris? I don't understand the sentence that I encapsulated above... Years ago..I tore a skin tag on my neck..I worked for a Doctor at the time...she applied a salve of Betadine. The skin tag took on a life of its own..looked like a multi headed tumor...I went to the emergency room...the first thing the Doc said was...You are allergic to Betadine. So I believed that. However, I do the Iodine thing on my outer thighs all the time..(I muscle test periodically to know when) My temp. is always below normal..quite a bit below when I do the first thing in the morning testing...so I just supplement by using plain Iodine topically. However, now that we are discussing this issue...last year when I made a trip to the emergency room...they insisted I have a Cat Scan...and they injected the iodine as a contrast. I didn't feel any changes but by the time I got upstairs...I had to stay over night...My pressure was so out of sight...but I thought it was because of the Cat Scan machine...I am terrified of anything that seems to be encased...maybe...it was the Iodine. I will need to ask my Doctor about this. Oh, and no...I have never had a bad reaction to seafood...love it.
