My office network went down yesterday in the middle of the night. The
UPS's can run about an hour but that was too much. In the past twelve
years we have had maybe two incidents with power going out more than
thirty minutes. This was one of those rare occasions. We draw power
off of a main feeder in the town we are located in so the power company
tends to keep that line well maintained. Plus we used to have a bank in
our building and the power was upgraded substantially when they moved in
(only to move out a few years later but the reliable power remained).

I was one of a couple hundred thousand people who lost power. I
was lucky, my power was back (and the server was up) after 24 hours,
others will be waiting 2 or 3 more days.

I have about 6 hours of UPS capacity to ride out the briefest
outages, but to be realistic power outages of a week or two happen
several times a decade. So 24 hours is on the brief side :-)
Tim.
Ouch! That sounds like a nasty time. Glad to see you back up and
running.
