Yep. I have a PDP-8/e with TD8E and TU56. It boots and runs, but is as slow as you might think it is. Lots of tape whirring, shoe-shining, then a dot prompt. Fortunately, once you are inside BASIC, for example, there's no tape motion until you go to load or save.
