In the late 70s/early 80s I used a strange terminal that had no break key.
To generate a break I would turn the baud rate knob from 9600 down to 50
and press a ctrl-@ then quickly switch back to 9600 baud.  The 50 baud 
null character looked like a break signal to the system which was listening
at 9600 baud.  I was glad to get a real VT100 soon after learning this trick.
