With the restoration of PDP7 Unix coming along nicely, how about a PDP7
hardware emulator and front panel so that everyone can have their own
"unix v0"? Dave Conroy did a PDP4 emulator in an FPGA
(http://fpgaretrocomputing.org/pdp4x/) that includes the EAE, so there's
a good starting point. What would be needed is an emulator for the 1MW
fixed head disk, which has a simple but quirky interface (BCD
track/sector numbers), a front panel interface, etc.
There are accessible instances of a PDP7 (with front panel) at the
Living Computer Museum, Seattle; and the Discovery Shed, Mona Vale, NSW,
Australia. The Computer History Museum also has one, but it's probably
in storage; and there's a fourth one in Norway, condition unknown.
