Hi Sergey, You start the remote DECwindows session by logging in to a terminal, redirecting the display, and running @sys$manager:decw$startsm.com .
Regarding the fontserver: yes, DECwindows includes a fontserver that an X client can get fonts from. I’d have to search for my notes as to how to set this all up. cu, Martin i. A. Is it possible to launch a whole DW session including the desktop and window manager (rather than merely a single select application) on a remote surface via X? If yes, what are the commands to launch it? What about the font management? Is it possible to use the fonts that come with DW rather than those available on the target display? ________________________________ From: "Hittner, David T [US] (MS)" <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> To: Sampsa Laine <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>>; SIMH <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Sent: Thursday, March 9, 2017 4:20 PM Subject: Re: [Simh] EXT : VAX SDL support? The Qbus-based VAXen support the QVSS (black-n-white) video module cards, which were the basis of the original VaxStation I and were also compatible with VaxStation II's, III's, and 4000's. The SIMH QVSS uses SDL for visualization. This is a native DecWindows interface. To be honest, it's just as easy to start DecWindows headless on any VAX and connect to the headless DecWindows from your PC via X or X over SSH. Quick question - I saw SDL graphics support mentioned somewhere and wondered which emulators have graphics support? Do any of the VAX ones? Can I run native DECWindows on any of them? sampsa _______________________________________________ Simh mailing list [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://mailman.trailing-edge.com/mailman/listinfo/simh _______________________________________________ Simh mailing list [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://mailman.trailing-edge.com/mailman/listinfo/simh
