Interesting idea re changing the tape color when highlighting. However the idea of highlighting is to emphasize an event. And the color of a tape (same as the icon) can mean something about the event. Ie some folks change the color of event tapes, on a per event basis, to show differences between events. So the highlighting shouldn't also change the color of the tape by default. Of course, for your app, you may want to change the color of the tape when highlighting. In that case, I'd suggest setting the color of the tape by using the classname event attribute, then changing the tape colors dynamically when you highlight events.
