Hi, I'm pleased to announce the latest rev of Timeline, 1677, is now available for testing. It includes the new feature of Start and Stop dates for your Timeline. If you use them, then your Timeline will not be movable past the start or stop dates.
Movement is stopped at the "edge" of your Timeline no matter how you like to move it: mouse scroll wheel, grabbing the Timeline with your mouse, arrow keys or page up and down keys. The setting is for the entire Timeline, so depending on the resolutions of your bands, and which band was being moved, some earlier or later dates of a band may be visible. The best way to see if it works for you is to try it out. You will need to install the zip file from the trunk version to try it. See the changes file for details or example2. An example Timeline with Start and Stop is available on-line here: http://simile-widgets.googlecode.com/svn/timeline/trunk/src/webapp/examples/test_example2/test_example2.html This update also includes enhancements to the span decorator which enable you to "cover up" everything on a Timeline. This is useful when creating a neutral background for the times before and after your "Timeline Start" and "Stop" dates. The example uses this technique. Please try it out and send replies with your experiences to the list. Implementation notes: Was pretty straightforward: the band's moveEther function now checks with a Timeline-wide function to see if the proposed movement is ok. Tricky bit was ignoring the secondary movements of the "other" bands when a specific band is being moved. Turns out that a positive movement of Band A can result in a negative movement of band B when band B is catching up with the new position of Band A.
