Hi Thaddeus,

Consulting the famous book "The Visual Display of Quantitative Information,"
leads to a couple of ideas:

1) Put the number after or before the event description (as part of the event's
description).
2) create miniature graphs as different icons, one for each possible magnitude.
The graphs would include an axis of zero line so you could tell if the event's
magnitude was more or less than 0.
3) create a miniature bar graph as the different icons, and use the color red
for negative values, black for positive values.

It is easy to specify different icons and labels on a per event basis using the
stock Timeline library

We'd like to include a link to your finished Timeline when it is done, so be
sure to send it to the mailing list when ready.

Regards,

Larry

Subject: Events With A Magnitude Value -- How To?

I am working on a timeline plotting scientific data. On top of that we
want to plot events. I am able to get the events to properly plot but
we also need the event to have a value (positive or negative). Looking
through the source it seems that this might not be possible. Does
anyone know of a way to add a magnitude to an event (say -3 or 5)?

Thanks very much.
