Are you using the current version of Timeline?
What data format are you using? (JSON?)

Since 
http://simile-widgets.googlecode.com/svn/timeline/trunk/src/webapp/examples/test_example2/test_example2.html
works fine on IE 7, my guess is a problem either in your dataset or in
your html/Javascript. You'll want to use stepwise refinement to figure
it out. There's a page on the Google wiki about typical IE problems.
