Your browser probably sees

<iframe src="callouts/<span ex:content=".content"
class="timelineLens"></span>">>

as

<iframe
    src="callouts/<span ex:content="
    .content"
    class="timelineLens">

</span>">>

There's an attribute named
    .content"
in the first element, and then the second tag is supposed to close a
corresponding opening <span> tag, which doesn't exist ...

What you probably want is

    <iframe ex:src-subcontent="callouts/{{.content}}"></iframe>
