Thanks for your reply. Looking in the code for the default theme, it
looks like you can change the colour, but I don't see any obvious way to
add a background image. Am I missing it?

It is called Switch Theme. When you click it the background color of
Timeline changes. If that's what you need then you need to implement
your own theme, here is how:
