Hi,

I'm working on a project that allows users to compare different prices
in 18th and 19th century England -- so that people can see different
economic proportions, and see how they've altered -- understanding,
for example, that the cost of a book was equivalent to a day-
labourer's wages for a week in 1755.

I'd like to use Timeline for this -- because I think it's exactly the
sort of visual interface that I need -- but of course its built-in
date units are set to normal units of time.

However, the Simile Widgets wiki provides a couple of useful sets of
instructions for customizing to create alternate units of time, i.e.,
quarter hours (http://www.simile-widgets.org/wiki/
Timeline_CustomDateRanges and
http://www.simile-widgets.org/wiki/How_to_create_own_date_ranges)
-- and I think it should be equally possible for me to alter them in
order to reflect pre-1971 British currency (i.e. 12 pence to 1
shilling, and 20 shillings to the pound, etc.)

I'm mostly self-taught, but I've taken courses in Java, and so I'm
pretty good at understanding syntax, and how to alter it without
screwing it up, and debugging when necessary. But I thought I'd see if
I could get a second opinion -- would this work? Should it, if I'm
careful in altering date-time.js and labellers.js?

It would be great if it did -- it means that I could set up facets to
allow people to isolate a particular year or area, and then scroll
through the timeline, and instead of having to start with an exact
amount, they would be able to see things that were within a close
range of the amount as well.

Thanks in advance, and my apologies if this isn't an appropriate
question for this forum.
