not really sure if this is related to your question but you could link to 
Google Spreadsheets instead of JSON/XML.
Your solution is probably faster than mine and can easily overcome the 
400.000 cell limit per file imposed by Google.

I wonder how do you populate the XML.. Perhaps automatically from another 
website?  Otherwise by hand would mean a lot of work.
