For what it is worth, I think it is an intriguing idea.  I have been toying 
with SVG and have had some of the same inklings of ideas for exhibit.  I 
certainly would be interested in hearing more about your ideas.... and I 
agree that the plug-in approach is the way to go for the kind of effort you 
are talking about...
