You do not react or form an opinion about any thing you observe, whether it is a newspaper headline, or an inner feeling."<<

Very close and also effective. I would shift the explanation a tad. Self-observation is self-observation only. Nothing is happening to you. There is nothing to personalize. These type statements or instructions are about observing other than oneself. However, when you observe yourself, you tend to observe these non-self things too because your mind is accustomed to the dreamside activity of watching and listening to thoughts and images in mind, and ideas that scurry back and forth for your belief system, trying to find just the right structure to make themselves real. So, in your mixed observations, simply place your attention as well as possible upon self as spirit. The statements made about "happening" and "personalizing" relate to these extraneous distractions, but not to your self. So, since your intent is to look at yourself, these things are irrelevant, no matter how they seem to be good, or bad, or important, or demanding. You can shift to look at them a moment if it seems needed, but then shift back to looking at self.

>>"P. D. Ouspensky quotes his teacher, George Gurdjieff:
âSelf-observation brings man to the realization of the necessity for self-change. And in observing himself a man notices that self-observation itself brings about certain changes in his inner processes, He begins to understand that self-observation is an instrument of self-change, a means of awakening. By observing himself he throws, as it were, a ray of light onto his inner processes which have hitherto worked in complete darkness. And under the influence of this light the processes themselves begin to change.â<<

While these comments do describe how things seem to be changing or occurring in the dream, they are untrue. No change is needed and no change is possible. Awakening is not change, but is rediscovery through willingness from looking at your will....and you "are" your will. Within the dream, the processes change, but both the processes and the changes in the processes are illusions and are unfaithful and inconsistent. Therefore, always remember to look at your reality and discover that it is worthy of your attention and reliance.
