That's why I find it fascinating when Al comments on the purpose of the dream, because when he does so he is really considering the reality of perception.  We have to acknowledge, whether it is technically real or not, that we experience this life as real, and hence it is worth giving it some consideration until such time as we  accept being only what we are.

It is not perception itself that is real, but what the alignment of it facilitates...seeing. Any alignment redirects in some perceptual degree toward seeing, but when looking beyond perception's objectification, and doing so nondiscriminately (omnidirectionally so to speak), the alignment fails to resist seeing at all, and thus what is peceived fades revealing its illusory nature. I say "fades" because we tend to run instantly back into perception because via conditioning, we find it comfortable...for the moment. Thus, in perception once again, it seems perception has faded or changed, for we have called forth our belief in it yet again. Seeing disappears perception. Denial calls it forth again. We say perception and its objects are not there, but perhaps it would be more accurate to say that perception is an incomplete view, and in being incomplete, it is totally incomplete for degree does not matter...unwhole vision is unwhole vision by any degree whatsoever.

ACIM comments that to deny what seems to be one's world or experience is unwise. I wholeheartedly agree with that view. It is not a matter of overcoming what is not there, but one of noticing what is there.
