I've been sifting through the archives for info on how to setup a backup
mail server, but I'm a little confused. What I need is a simple backup
mail server that will do two things for me:
-when the primary mail server goes down, the backup will begin receiving
all incoming mail and hold it until the primary comes back online then
forward all new messages to their respective accounts.
-while the primary server is down, it would be nice if my clients could
still send outgoing mail, although this is much less important than the
first task.
My backup server consists of a PM 7100 with 32MB ram and about 108MB of
free disk space so the idea hear is to not keep anything on the backup
server any longer than necessary. I use QuickDNS so I think the
following DNS entries will work properly:
customerdomain.com MX 10 mail.mydomain.com
customerdomain.com MX 20 mail2.mydomain.com
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Perry
