AutoShare has such mechanism.
It allows admins to set up a filter file that keeps track of every addresses a reply
is sent to, so that it never gets sent twice. The only drawback is with some badly
broken list programs - such as one from M$ whose name I can't remember - that change
the return address for each message sent.

I'm specializing in controlling SIMS files with AppleScript. See my absolutely
unfinished ScrIMS page at http://www.ijm.jussieu.fr/scrims/. While the pages are
starting to be very old, I've more recent things to show. Please feel free to email me.
I'm nowadays working on an advanced account editor that could replace the Communigator
- only for account editing however. As SIMS can be somewhat extended with the use of
AutoShare, my editor would include some panels for a few AS settings. I would like to
simplify the creation of a real auto-reply message, ie on that gets sent only once.
