The other way that this is going to backfire on MAPS is in the accuracy
of their reporting.  It's the same phenomenon as a stalled vehicle on the
freeway; most people with cellphones won't report it nowadays because they
know that someone else probably already did.  While it's considerably less
bother to report a spammer to MAPS, I know that if I'm not going to get any
benefit out of MAPS that I certainly am not going to spend my time making
their database any better.

I frankly believe that services such as this should be paid for by a
surcharge on domain name registrations; $2/year/name should be plenty
to pay for this, and I think that that would be an entirely reasonable
fee, if the database was kept up accurately.  However, that's a big "if."
