Using an alias is fine; I do that with my server to put all the SIMS
stuff on an entirely separate disk.

-38 is "File not open."  If you moved the SIMS folder while SIMS was
running, you might get this problem; make sure you do any rearrangement
of files/folders before you start SIMS.
