I earlier noted that my ISP's mail server has no anti-spam features. In fact, his
Netscape Mail Server v1.1 is an open relay as well. He has asked me if, somehow, he
can set all of his outgoing mail to use my SIMS machine for sending and if this will
prevent relaying through his server to the Internet.

That is, if [EMAIL PROTECTED] connects to his Netscape Mail Server v1.1 and
sends a bunch of spam, and his server is directed to send through my SIMS box, will
SIMS be able to recognize that the mail did not originate at one of his dialups and
stop it?

My thought is, no, it will see the mail as coming from a machine on his network -- a
trusted host -- and happily relay it. Whereupon, my SIMS box will probably be
blacklisted.

Yes, I know, he should just upgrade his mail server, and intends to do so, but until
then, is there any stopgap that doesn't require his users to reconfigure their mailers?

Part of his problem is that all the user account names and passwords are stored in the
Windows Registry on his mail server (apparently where Netscape Mail Server v1.1
stores such things) and there seems to be no way to get them out.

If anyone knows how to extract user data from Netscape Mail Server v1.1 so it can be
imported into SIMS, I'd really appreciate knowing. I'd like to convince him to just
switch to SIMS, or Communigate.
