Hi again,
My SIMS server keeps plugging away on Mac OS 9.1, but I've been
experimenting with an alternative - a user off a mailing list told me about
a utility which lets pre-G3 powermac owners run OSX - I've just installed
it on a 9600 (it works on 7300-9600 & some others) & updated it to OS X
10.1 & then started the 'Classic' environment & have successfully run SIMS
1.8b8d12 on it, all with pretty decent speed to boot.
So, all is not lost for us older machine users. I'm really pleased
we can do this, because it means we can run a lot of stuff on OSX that we
couldn't on Mac OS 9.1
For those interested, grab a copy of a utility called
'UnsupportedUtilityX' Go to www.versiontracker.com & do a search for
'unsupported' it was the only result I got. Then follow the instructions
found in the utility download - it's freeware & my installation procedure
was faultless.
It's a little less 'snappy' feeling than Mac OS 9.1, but network
access to & from it is certainly outstanding, including when I installed
Tenon's iTools server package demo. Brilliant stuff. Even SIMS runs at
least as fast as it does on my 7300 server.
Hope this is useful info for anyone who needs it.
Bye for now, Terry Allen
