I hate to send this email... since it is going to sound like an advertisement for my software... but I have seen questions about this come up from time to time here.
SIMS has support for the PWD protocol to change passwords. Unfortunately, not all email clients support it. Outside of Telnet there was really no other way to change your password, and telnet is a bit above the common user. So, many moons ago, while eating lunch at work, I wrote PWDer... a free stand alone PWD client. It is nice and simple. It does one thing, and it does it well. This was fine... but it was brought to my attention that not everyone is savvy enough to download and run an extra application just to change their password. So... for you mail admins out there, that want to offer this ability to your users... I just posted my new app... PWD.cgi. PWD.cgi is a web cgi that gives you access to the PWD protocol. It requires a mac web server that can support applescript CGIs (that includes Apple's PWS). Beyond that... there isn't much else it needs, and can happily run along side a SIMS server (or any other mail server... but this is a SIMS list after all). And for those of you that can't or won't run a mail server... PWD Server is in development. This will be a small, stand alone web server specifically for the PWD protocol. This will let you run the PWD Server on the same box as your SIMS server, and it will collect the info via a web interface, and exchange it with the SIMS server. You can get more info (well, not much more to tell) and download PWDer, or PWD.cgi from my web site at <http://www.mythtech.net/pwd.html> Again... I don't want this to seem too much like an add for my software, as it is an FYI there is now a software solution to a problem that has been brought up on this list in the past. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ############################################################# This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
