Others have been harsher on Matt for quite some time. His scripts are basically the work of an amateur from the very early days of the net, tweaked here and there over the years but still essentially ignorant of security concerns and assuming that input is not malicious. By being freely available in 1995 and ever since his scripts have pretty much become endemic, much as sendmail 5 (a security nightmare) did in the early 90's.
