At 11:44 AM -0400 4/3/02, Paul Galati imposed structure on a stream
of electrons, yielding:
>Online poll:
>
>How many RBL entries do you currently have in your server setup ?

Four:

sbl.spamhaus.org: The SBL is a fairly conservative list of the
grossest spammers. No hair-splitters who argue over what sort of
strength opt-in needs, but the hardcore operations. Occasionally
Steve escalates major problem upstreams, but when he does he gets
very swift responses. Probably the most effective DNSBL since the
MAPS RBL of 1999.

spamsites.relays.osirusoft.com: very low catch rate, zero collateral
damage. More hardcore spammers and purveyors of spamware. A lot o0f
non-mail machines on the list.

dialups.relays.osirusoft.com: Dialups. There is no reason for anyone
on a dialup who cannot authenticate to my server to be mailing
through it.

relays.visi.com: a very conservative open relay list. Run by Al
Iverson, who started the ancestor of the MAPS RSS (then called RRSS)
as a response to the insanity of ORBS. The only open relay list open
to the public which is not fed by unethical testing.

IMNSHO that set should be usable by virtually any site and is
designed to have very little collateral damage. I save that for my
local blacklist.

(which is still at http://sc1.scconsult.com/bill/blacklist.html and
is still altogether too aggressive and haphazardly maintained for
anyone else.)
