That's not really spam per se, but a fairly well-known scam that can be run
not only via e-mail, but also via snail mail and FAX. I would think that if
it didn't continue to yield results, the con artists would not continue to
attempt it. It's hard to believe that anyone would fall for it, but people
do loose a lot of money (at least) to it. FWIW, the US Secret Service has,
or had, a page devoted to it on their web site (look for information about
the '419' or 'Nigerian' scam -- it's most often run from Nigeria, and '419'
refers to the Nigerian statute under which perpetrators are prosecuted).
