>Isn't an UNKNOWN account a Bad Idea? It can be, as it opens you to dictionary spam attacks and the likes. It also defeats some of the spam trap features (such as temp banning for hitting to many invalid addresses).
I use the unknown for one of my servers, and on a whole, it doesn't cause me TOO much trouble. For a while I was getting hit with large scale spam attacks (dictionary type attacks), but that seems to have stopped. The only think I changed was my unknown account now issues an auto-reply saying the email was addressed to an unknown user and was forwarded to the mail admin to figure out who was supposed to get it. Within a few weeks of turning that on, dictionary attacks stopped, but it could just be coincidence, those spam runs only happened every once in a while anyway. I turned that on simply to correct the constant offenders that were too lazy to update their address book to fix an email address spelling mistake... it also worked well on that front. Now I am down to getting just the legitimate unknown traffic. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ############################################################# This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
