I'm not a developer, but just a heavy user, so I can't agree or not
whether it's "just a few more lines" of code.

If you delivered 50,000 to 100,000 e-mails a day with
SIMS/Macjordomo, as I do, you'd care very much if it makes it slow!
Message turn-around time is fairly critical for most of the
discussion lists I host, and a slow list server or mail server would
put me out of business.

It's not a "fix," as you suggest, but a feature request. I agree it
would be nice to have that option for a few of my lists, but for most
it would likely slow down my server to the point of making it
impractical. Good luck asking the author to add that feature -- he's
been asked many times before and declined so far (plus I believe he's
currently on vacation in Italy and Corsica until the end of July).
Remember, you're talking about freeware. Since you're a professional
developer, I see an opening for you! If you could develop a fast,
full-featured list server that was very inexpensive, I'd bet you'd
have a ready market for it! Maybe even if it wasn't very inexpensive
... there aren't a lot of options on the Mac platform, and I'm sure
there's room for more.
