This is reasonable, and unrelated to the original problem.

When you telnet to pecandeluxe.com:25, you're going to get pecandeluxe.com:25,
and not any server(s) on the MX list.
When manually simulating a SMTP connection, you must manually obtain the
MX list
and telnet to port 25 on one of the servers on that list, preferably to
the one
with the first ranked priority (in this case, bigbrother.pecandeluxe.com).
