Hello Chris Wagner. At 14:51 -0600 06.11.2002, you wrote:

From a client perspective, could you run it with the option "Leave
messages on server" enabled to prevent downloading of messages to
machines?

I mean, in that instant, would the client just "preview" the message
on the server, having not downloaded it, or would clicking on the
message itself download to this box.
I am using Eudora, so it may be different for other mail apps (but
then, why should it really be different...?).

In the office, I have set Eudora to "leave mail on server", at home I
don't have this option activated. When I check my account from the
office machine, Eudora downloads all new messages, and shows a
special icon in the message list so that I see this message is still
available on the server.

The message content is of course fully sent to the local machine, but
the original is just not deleted from the server.

I can manually "delete from server" by clicking the dustbin icon in
the message window. Then the message is deleted from the server when
Eudora checks mail again.

Any messages not deleted that way download again at home. On one
account, which operates on EIMS (Eudora Internet Mail Server) ,
previously retrieved messages are _not_ showing as "new" messages,
they just download as "read". The other account, which is on SIMS,
shows all messages as "new", even those which I already saw in the
office.

Hope this helps. Best wishes, Christian.
